Haitian musician, Fabrice Rouzier and music publisher B.E. Relations filed a federal lawsuit on April 22nd, 2025 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York against Joe Dwet File, BurnaBoy, Tonton Bicha and others, alleging unauthorized use of Rouzier’s classic “Je vais” in the hit-song “4 Kanpe”.
In the complaint, Rouzier and B.E. Relations alleged that Joe Dwet File “4 Kanpe” released in October 2024, substantially copied lyrics, melodies, and the narrative from Rouzier’s “Je vais” including direct excerpt from the original sound recording.
In addition to seeking financial damages of $150,000 per infringement, Rouzier and B.E. Relations have requested sweeping injunctions to prevent the distribution, sale, public performance, and other exploitation of “4 Kanpe II” and the “4 Kanpe” music video. The complaint further alleges that the “4 Kanpe II” remix with Nigerian superstar BurnaBoy continues to infringe on Rouzier’s original work.
